Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security-related update.

Description

The remote Debian 10 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the dla-3330 advisory.

- Amanda 3.5.1 allows privilege escalation from the regular user backup to root. The SUID binary located at /lib/amanda/rundump will execute /usr/sbin/dump as root with controlled arguments from the attacker which may lead to escalation of privileges, denial of service, and information disclosure. (CVE-2022-37704)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the amanda packages.

For Debian 10 Buster, this problem has been fixed in version 1
