CBL Mariner 2.0 Security Update: emacs (CVE-2022-45939)

high Nessus Plugin ID 172736

Synopsis

The remote CBL Mariner host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The version of emacs installed on the remote CBL Mariner 2.0 host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the CVE-2022-45939 advisory.

- GNU Emacs through 28.2 allows attackers to execute commands via shell metacharacters in the name of a source-code file, because lib-src/etags.c uses the system C library function in its implementation of the ctags program. For example, a victim may use the ctags * command (suggested in the ctags documentation) in a situation where the current working directory has contents that depend on untrusted input.
(CVE-2022-45939)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
