Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of dnsmasq installed on the remote host is prior to 2.76-16.16. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2020-1458 advisory.

- A vulnerability was found in dnsmasq before version 2.81, where the memory leak allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via vectors involving DHCP response creation.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update dnsmasq' to update your system.
