high Nessus Plugin ID 173349

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 ESM / 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the USN-5969-1 advisory.

It was discovered that gif2apng contained multiple heap-base overflows. An attacker could potentially exploit this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2021-45909, CVE-2021-45910, CVE-2021-45911)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected gif2apng package.
