SUSE SLES15 Security Update : python-cryptography (SUSE-SU-2023:1763-1)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 173891

Language:

Synopsis

The remote SUSE host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote SUSE Linux SLES15 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SUSE- SU-2023:1763-1 advisory.

- cryptography is a package designed to expose cryptographic primitives and recipes to Python developers. In affected versions `Cipher.update_into` would accept Python objects which implement the buffer protocol, but provide only immutable buffers. This would allow immutable objects (such as `bytes`) to be mutated, thus violating fundamental rules of Python and resulting in corrupted output. This now correctly raises an exception. This issue has been present since `update_into` was originally introduced in cryptography 1.8.
(CVE-2023-23931)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected python3-cryptography package.
