Splunk Enterprise 8.1.0 < 8.1.14, 8.2.0 < 8.2.11, 9.0.0 < 9.0.5 (SVD-2023-0603)

high Nessus Plugin ID 176559

Synopsis

An application running on a remote web server host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

The version of Splunk installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SVD-2023-0603 advisory.

- In Splunk Enterprise versions below 9.0.5, 8.2.11, and 8.1.14, and Splunk Cloud Platform versions below 9.0.2303.100, a low-privileged user can trigger an HTTP response splitting vulnerability with the rest' SPL command that lets them potentially access other REST endpoints in the system arbitrarily.
(CVE-2023-32708)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

For Splunk Enterprise, upgrade versions to 9.0.5, 8.2.11, 8.1.14, or higher.
For Splunk Cloud Platform, Splunk is monitoring and patching affected instances.
