Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of rsync installed on the remote host is prior to 3.1.2-11. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2023-2074 advisory.

A security vulnerability was found in zlib. The flaw triggered a heap-based buffer in inflate in the inflate.c function via a large gzip header extra field. This flaw is only applicable in the call inflateGetHeader. (CVE-2022-37434)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update rsync' to update your system.
