OpenSSL 0.9.8 < 0.9.8i Vulnerability

high Nessus Plugin ID 17761

Synopsis

The remote service is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The version of OpenSSL installed on the remote host is prior to 0.9.8i. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the 0.9.8i advisory.

- ssl/s3_pkt.c in OpenSSL before 0.9.8i allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and daemon crash) via a DTLS ChangeCipherSpec packet that occurs before ClientHello.
(CVE-2009-1386)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to OpenSSL version 0.9.8i or later.
