Debian DLA-3479-1 : golang-yaml.v2 - LTS security update

high Nessus Plugin ID 178004

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The remote Debian 10 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the dla-3479 advisory.

- Due to unbounded alias chasing, a maliciously crafted YAML file can cause the system to consume significant system resources. If parsing user input, this may be used as a denial of service vector.
(CVE-2021-4235)

- Parsing malicious or large YAML documents can consume excessive amounts of CPU or memory. (CVE-2022-3064)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the golang-yaml.v2 packages.

For Debian 10 buster, these problems have been fixed in version 2.2.2-1+deb10u1.
