Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security-related update.

Description

The remote Debian 10 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the dla-3480 advisory.

- A Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) issue was discovered in the sanitize_html function of redcloth gem v4.0.0. This vulnerability allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via supplying a crafted payload. (CVE-2023-31606)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the ruby-redcloth packages.

For Debian 10 buster, this problem has been fixed in version 4.3.2-3+deb10u1.
