high Nessus Plugin ID 180007

Synopsis

The Microsoft SQL Server installation on the remote host is missing a security update.

Description

The Microsoft SQL Server driver installation on the remote host is missing a security update. It is, therefore, affected by the following vulnerability:

- A remote code execution vulnerability. An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by tricking an authenticated user into attempting to connect to a malicious SQL server via OLEDB, which could result in the server receiving a malicious networking packet. This could allow the attacker to execute code remotely on the client. (CVE-2023-38169)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Microsoft has released security updates for the Microsoft SQL Driver.
