Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch

Description

The Dell BIOS on the remote device is missing a security patch and is, therefore, affected by a Time-of-check Time-of-use vulnerability. A local authenticated malicious user with physical access to the system could potentially exploit this vulnerability by using a specifically timed DMA transaction during an SMI in order to gain arbitrary code execution on the system.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Apply the security patch in accordance with the vendor advisory.
