Synopsis

An application running on a remote web server host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

The version of Splunk installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SVD-2023-0806 advisory.

- In Splunk Enterprise versions lower than 8.2.12, 9.0.6, and 9.1.1, an attacker can exploit an absolute path traversal to execute arbitrary code that is located on a separate disk. (CVE-2023-40597)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to 8.2.12, 9.0.6, or 9.1.1.
Splunk is actively monitoring and patching Splunk Cloud Systems.
