medium Nessus Plugin ID 181706

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of ghostscript installed on the remote host is prior to 9.25-5. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2023-2261 advisory.

- A buffer overflow vulnerability in pcx_write_rle() in contrib/japanese/gdev10v.c of Artifex Software GhostScript v9.50 allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service via a crafted PDF file. This is fixed in v9.51. (CVE-2020-16305)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update ghostscript' to update your system.
