Amazon Linux 2 : mdadm (ALAS-2023-2275)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 182645

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of mdadm installed on the remote host is prior to 4.0-5. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS2-2023-2275 advisory.

Buffer overflow in some Intel(R) SSD Tools software before version mdadm-4.2-rc2 may allow a privileged user to potentially enable escalation of privilege via local access. (CVE-2023-28736)

Uncontrolled resource consumption in some Intel(R) SSD Tools software before version mdadm-4.2-rc2 may allow a priviledged user to potentially enable denial of service via local access. (CVE-2023-28938)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update mdadm' to update your system.
