Amazon Linux 2 : mdadm (ALAS-2023-2275)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 182645

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of mdadm installed on the remote host is prior to 4.0-5. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS2-2023-2275 advisory.

- Buffer overflow in some Intel(R) SSD Tools software before version mdadm-4.2-rc2 may allow a privileged user to potentially enable escalation of privilege via local access. (CVE-2023-28736)

- Uncontrolled resource consumption in some Intel(R) SSD Tools software before version mdadm-4.2-rc2 may allow a priviledged user to potentially enable denial of service via local access. (CVE-2023-28938)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update mdadm' to update your system.
