F5 Networks BIG-IP : BIG-IP HTTP/2 DoS (K000137106)

high Nessus Plugin ID 183052

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

The version of F5 Networks BIG-IP installed on the remote host is prior or equal to 17.1.0 / 16.1.4 / 15.1.10 / 14.1.5 / 13.1.5. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the K000137106 advisory.
The HTTP/2 protocol allows a denial of service (server resource consumption) because request cancellation can reset many streams quickly, as exploited in the wild in August through October 2023.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

The vendor has acknowledged the vulnerability, but no solution has been provided.
Refer to the vendor for remediation guidance.
