Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 ESM host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-4787-1 advisory.

It was discovered that jq did not perform sufficient bounds checking, resulting in unbounded resource consumption. An attacker could use this vulnerability to cause a denial of service.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected jq package.
