Apache ActiveMQ < 5.15.16 / 5.16.x < 5.16.7 / 5.17.x < 5.17.6 / 5.18.x < 5.18.3 RCE

critical Nessus Plugin ID 184189

Synopsis

The remote host is running a web application that is affected by remote code execution vulnerability.

Description

Apache ActiveMQ is vulnerable to remote code execution. The vulnerability may allow a remote attacker with network access to a broker to run arbitrary shell commands by manipulating serialized class types in the OpenWire protocol to cause the broker to instantiate any class on the classpath. Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 5.15.16, 5.16.7, 5.17.6 or 5.18.3, which address this issue.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Apache ActiveMQ version 5.15.16, 5.16.7, 5.17.6, 5.18.3 or later.
