Amazon Linux 2 : nmap (ALAS-2023-2333)

high Nessus Plugin ID 184284

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of nmap installed on the remote host is prior to 6.40-19. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2023-2333 advisory.

- Nmap through 7.70, when the -sV option is used, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (stack consumption and application crash) via a crafted TCP-based service. (CVE-2018-15173)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update nmap' to update your system.
