Synopsis

The remote database server is affected by multiple vulnerabilities

Description

The version of PostgreSQL installed on the remote host is 11 prior to 11.22, 12 prior to 12.17, 13 prior to 13.13, 14 prior to 14.10, 15 prior to 15.5, or 16 prior to 16.1. As such, it is potentially affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- Missing overflow checks let authenticated database users write arbitrary bytes to an area of memory that facilitates arbitrary code execution and read a wide area of server memory. (CVE-2023-5869)

- Certain aggregate function calls receiving an 'unknown'-type arguments can disclose bytes of server memory up to the next zero byte. (CVE-2023-5868)

- Role pg_cancel_backend can signal certain superuser processes contrary to the function documentation.
Examples of processes that could be improperly signaled are the logical replication launcher and the autovacuum launcher and workers. (CVE-2023-5870)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to PostgreSQL 11.22 / 12.17 / 13.13 / 14.10 / 15.5 / 16.1 or later
