Splunk Enterprise 9.0.0 < 9.0.7, 9.1.0 < 9.1.2 (SVD-2023-1104)

high Nessus Plugin ID 185903

Synopsis

An application running on a remote web server host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

The version of Splunk installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SVD-2023-1104 advisory.

- In Splunk Enterprise versions below 9.0.7 and 9.1.2, Splunk Enterprise does not safely sanitize extensible stylesheet language transformations (XSLT) that users supply. This means that an attacker can upload malicious XSLT which can result in remote code execution on the Splunk Enterprise instance.
(CVE-2023-46214)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to either 9.0.7 or 9.1.2. Splunk is actively monitoring and patching Splunk Cloud Platform instances.
