Cisco Expressway Series / Cisco TelePresence VCS DoS (cisco-sa-http2-reset-d8Kf32vZ)

high Nessus Plugin ID 186212

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

The Cisco Expressway Series or Cisco TelePresence Video Communication Server (VCS) running on the remote host is prior to 14.3.3. It is, therefore, affected by a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability, due to a HTTP/2 protocol-level weakness. The HTTP/2 protocol allows a denial of service (server resource consumption) because request cancellation can reset many streams quickly, which could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to exploit this issue to cause Cisco Expressway or Cisco VCS to stop responding.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to the relevant fixed version referenced in Cisco bug ID CSCwh88665
