NewStart CGSL MAIN 6.06 : cpio Vulnerability (NS-SA-2023-0088)

high Nessus Plugin ID 187360

Synopsis

The remote NewStart CGSL host is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The remote NewStart CGSL host, running version MAIN 6.06, has cpio packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability:

- GNU cpio through 2.13 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted pattern file, because of a dstring.c ds_fgetstr integer overflow that triggers an out-of-bounds heap write. NOTE: it is unclear whether there are common cases where the pattern file, associated with the -E option, is untrusted data.
(CVE-2021-38185)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the vulnerable CGSL cpio packages. Note that updated packages may not be available yet. Please contact ZTE for more information.
