Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of squid installed on the remote host is prior to 3.5.20-17.53. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2024-1901 advisory.

- Squid is a caching proxy for the Web supporting HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and more. Due to a Buffer Overread bug Squid is vulnerable to a Denial of Service attack against Squid HTTP Message processing. This bug is fixed by Squid version 6.5. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update squid' to update your system.
