Synopsis

An application running on a remote web server host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

The version of Splunk installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SVD-2024-0106 advisory.

- In Splunk versions below 9.0.8 and 9.1.3, the mrollup SPL command lets a low-privileged user view metrics on an index that they do not have permission to view. This vulnerability requires user interaction from a high-privileged user to exploit. (CVE-2024-23676)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to versions 9.0.8, 9.1.3, or higher.Splunk is actively monitoring and patching Splunk Cloud Platform instances.
