Amazon Linux 2 : python-pillow (ALAS-2024-2444)

high Nessus Plugin ID 190026

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of python-pillow installed on the remote host is prior to 2.0.0-23.gitd1c6db8. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2024-2444 advisory.

Pillow through 10.1.0 allows PIL.ImageMath.eval Arbitrary Code Execution via the environment parameter, a different vulnerability than CVE-2022-22817 (which was about the expression parameter). (CVE-2023-50447)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update python-pillow' to update your system.
