Synopsis

The Wix Toolset installed on the remote host is affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability.

Description

The version of Wix Toolset installed on the remote host is prior to 3.14.0 or 4.x prior to 4.0.4. It is, therefore, affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability. The .be TEMP folder is vulnerable to DLL redirection attacks that allow an unauthenticated, local attacker to escalate privileges. This impacts any installer built with the WiX installer framework.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Wix Toolset version 3.14, 4.0.4 or later.
