Synopsis

The remote CentOS host is missing a security update for ncurses.

Description

The remote CentOS Linux 9 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ncurses-6.2-10.20210508.el9 build changelog.

- ncurses before 6.4 20230408, when used by a setuid application, allows local users to trigger security- relevant memory corruption via malformed data in a terminfo database file that is found in $HOME/.terminfo or reached via the TERMINFO or TERM environment variable. (CVE-2023-29491)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the CentOS 9 Stream ncurses package.
