high Nessus Plugin ID 191522

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of cpio installed on the remote host is prior to 2.12-11. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2024-2489 advisory.

cpio 2.11, when using the --no-absolute-filenames option, allows local users to write to arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a file in an archive. (CVE-2015-1197)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update cpio' to update your system.
