Synopsis

remote Mac host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FortiClient installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the FG-IR-23-345 advisory.

- An external control of file name or path vulnerability [CWE-73] in FortiClientMac version 7.2.3 and below, version 7.0.10 and below installer may allow a local attacker to execute arbitrary code or commands via writing a malicious configuration file in /tmp before starting the installation process. (CVE-2024-31492)

- An external control of file name or path vulnerability [CWE-73] in FortiClientMac's installer may allow a local attacker to execute arbitrary code or commands via writing a malicious configuration file in /tmp before starting the installation process. (CVE-2023-45588)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to FortiClient version 7.0.11 / 7.2.4 or later.
