RHEL 6 : libyaml (RHSA-2015:0112)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 193819

Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing a security update for libyaml.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the RHSA-2015:0112 advisory.

YAML is a data serialization format designed for human readability and interaction with scripting languages. LibYAML is a YAML parser and emitter written in C.

An assertion failure was found in the way the libyaml library parsed wrapped strings. An attacker able to load specially crafted YAML input into an application using libyaml could cause the application to crash.
(CVE-2014-9130)

All libyaml users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which contain a backported patch to correct this issue. All running applications linked against the libyaml library must be restarted for this update to take effect.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL libyaml package based on the guidance in RHSA-2015:0112.
