R Programming Language 1.4.0 < 4.4.0 Insecure Deserialization

high Nessus Plugin ID 195217

Synopsis

An application installed on the remote Windows host is affected by an insecure deserialization vulnerability.

Description

The version of the R Programming Language running on the remote host is 1.4.0 or later, before 4.4.0. It is, therefore, affected by an insecure deserialization vulnerability. Deserialization of untrusted data can occur, enabling a maliciously crafted RDS (R Data Serialization) formatted file or R package to run arbitrary code on an end user's system when interacted with.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to R version 4.4.0 or later.
