Amazon Linux 2 : git (ALAS-2024-2535)

high Nessus Plugin ID 197111

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of git installed on the remote host is prior to 2.40.1-1. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2024-2535 advisory.

An issue was discovered in git where a client can convince upload-pack running on a server to allocate arbitrary amounts of memory, resulting in a possible denial of service.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update git' to update your system.
