OpenSSL 0.9.7 < 0.9.7d Multiple Vulnerabilities

high Nessus Plugin ID 200196

Synopsis

The remote service is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The version of OpenSSL installed on the remote host is prior to 0.9.7d. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the 0.9.7d advisory.

- The SSL/TLS handshaking code in OpenSSL 0.9.7a, 0.9.7b, and 0.9.7c, when using Kerberos ciphersuites, does not properly check the length of Kerberos tickets during a handshake, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted SSL/TLS handshake that causes an out-of-bounds read.
(CVE-2004-0112)

- The do_change_cipher_spec function in OpenSSL 0.9.6c to 0.9.6k, and 0.9.7a to 0.9.7c, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted SSL/TLS handshake that triggers a null dereference. (CVE-2004-0079)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to OpenSSL version 0.9.7d or later.
