OpenSSL 0.9.6c < 0.9.6m Vulnerability

high Nessus Plugin ID 200198

Synopsis

The remote service is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The version of OpenSSL installed on the remote host is prior to 0.9.6m. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the 0.9.6m advisory.

- The do_change_cipher_spec function in OpenSSL 0.9.6c to 0.9.6k, and 0.9.7a to 0.9.7c, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted SSL/TLS handshake that triggers a null dereference. (CVE-2004-0079)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to OpenSSL version 0.9.6m or later.
