CBL Mariner 2.0 Security Update: helm / moby-engine / moby-compose / moby-cli (CVE-2023-2253)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 201771

Synopsis

The remote CBL Mariner host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The version of helm / moby-engine / moby-compose / moby-cli installed on the remote CBL Mariner 2.0 host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the CVE-2023-2253 advisory.

- A flaw was found in the `/v2/_catalog` endpoint in distribution/distribution, which accepts a parameter to control the maximum number of records returned (query string: `n`). This vulnerability allows a malicious user to submit an unreasonably large value for `n,` causing the allocation of a massive string array, possibly causing a denial of service through excessive use of memory. (CVE-2023-2253)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
