CBL Mariner 2.0 Security Update: tpm2-tools (CVE-2024-29039)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 202736

Synopsis

The remote CBL Mariner host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The version of tpm2-tools installed on the remote CBL Mariner 2.0 host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the CVE-2024-29039 advisory.

- tpm2 is the source repository for the Trusted Platform Module (TPM2.0) tools. This vulnerability allows attackers to manipulate tpm2_checkquote outputs by altering the TPML_PCR_SELECTION in the PCR input file.
As a result, digest values are incorrectly mapped to PCR slots and banks, providing a misleading picture of the TPM state. This issue has been patched in version 5.7. (CVE-2024-29039)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
