Vim < 9.1.0647 Use-After-Free

medium Nessus Plugin ID 205313

Synopsis

A text editor installed on the remote Windows host is affected a use-after-free vulnerability.

Description

According to its version, the version of Vim installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 9.1.0647. It is, therefore affected by a use-after-free vulnerability. When closing a window, the corresponding tagstack data will be cleared and freed. However a bit later, the quickfix list belonging to that window will also be cleared and if that quickfix list points to the same tagstack data, Vim will try to free it again, resulting in a double-free/use-after-free access exception.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Vim version 9.1.0647 or later
