medium Nessus Plugin ID 206332

Language:

Synopsis

The remote FreeBSD host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FreeBSD installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the 46419e8c-65d9-11ef-ac06-b0416f0c4c67 advisory.

[email protected] reports:
All versions of the package configobj are vulnerable to Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) via the validate function, using (.+?)\((.*)\).**Note:** This is only exploitable in the case of a developer putting the offending value in a server side configuration file.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the FreeBSD security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
