Ubuntu 4.10 : vim vulnerabilities (USN-61-1)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 20680

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security-related patches.

Description

Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pena noticed that the auxillary scripts 'tcltags' and 'vimspell.sh' created temporary files in an insecure manner. This could allow a symbolic link attack to create or overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user invoking the script (either by calling it directly or by execution through vim).

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
