CentOS 6 : kernel (RHSA-2020:3548)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 208649

Synopsis

The remote CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote CentOS Linux 6 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the RHSA-2020:3548 advisory.

- The KEYS subsystem in the Linux kernel before 3.18 allows local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) via vectors involving a NULL value for a certain match field, related to the keyring_search_iterator function in keyring.c. (CVE-2017-2647)

- A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel, version kernel-2.6.32, in Marvell WiFi chip driver. A remote attacker could cause a denial of service (system crash) or, possibly execute arbitrary code, when the lbs_ibss_join_existing function is called after a STA connects to an AP.
(CVE-2019-14896)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected kernel-bootwrapper, kernel-kdump and / or kernel-kdump-devel packages.
