CBL Mariner 2.0 Security Update: kernel (CVE-2024-46719)

Synopsis

The remote CBL Mariner host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The version of kernel installed on the remote CBL Mariner 2.0 host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the CVE-2024-46719 advisory.

 - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: typec: ucsi: Fix null pointer dereference in trace ucsi_register_altmode checks IS_ERR for the alt pointer and treats NULL as valid.
 When CONFIG_TYPEC_DP_ALTMODE is not enabled, ucsi_register_displayport returns NULL which causes a NULL pointer dereference in trace. Rather than return NULL, call typec_port_register_altmode to register DisplayPort alternate mode as a non-controllable mode when CONFIG_TYPEC_DP_ALTMODE is not enabled.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
