Fortinet FortiWeb ] Stack-Based Buffer Overflow vulnerability using a crafted request (FG-IR-20-125)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 209748

Synopsis

Fortinet Firewall is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FortiWeb installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the FG-IR-20-125 advisory.

- A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in FortiWeb 6.3.0 through 6.3.5 and version before 6.2.4 may allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to overwrite the content of the stack and potentially execute arbitrary code by sending a crafted request with a large certname. (CVE-2020-29016)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Please upgrade to FortiWeb version 6.2.5/6.3.10 or later.
