Fortinet Firewall is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of Fortigate installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the FG-IR-21-115 advisory.

 - A heap-based buffer overflow in the firmware signature verification function of FortiOS versions 7.0.1, 7.0.0, 6.4.0 through 6.4.6, 6.2.0 through 6.2.9, and 6.0.0 through 6.0.13 may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code via specially crafted installation images. (CVE-2021-36173)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Please upgrade to FortiOS version 6.0.14/6.2.10/6.4.7/7.0.2 or later.
