Synopsis

Fortinet Firewall is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of Fortigate installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the FG-IR-21-179 advisory.

- A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability [CWE-121] in the command line interpreter of FortiOS before 7.0.4 and FortiProxy before 2.0.8 may allow an authenticated attacker to execute unauthorized code or commands via specially crafted command line arguments. (CVE-2021-44170)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Please upgrade to FortiOS version 6.2.11/6.4.9/7.0.4 or later.
