Python Improper Validation SSRF (CVE-2024-11168)

low Nessus Plugin ID 211470

Synopsis

The remote host has an application installed that is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The version of Python installed on the remote Windows host is improper validation vulnerability. The urllib.parse.urlsplit() and urlparse() functions improperly validated bracketed hosts (`[]`), allowing hosts that weren't IPv6 or IPvFuture. This behavior was not conformant to RFC 3986 and potentially enabled SSRF if a URL is processed by more than one URL parser.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Python 3.11.4, 3.12.0b1 or later.
