Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 22.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-7128-1 advisory.

Sebastian Chnelik discovered that Pygments had an inefficient regex query for analyzing certain inputs. An attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected python3-pygments package.
