Synopsis

An application running on a remote web server host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

The version of Splunk installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SVD-2024-1204 advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

To fix the problem, perform the following procedure on Splunk Enterprise:1. Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to versions 9.3.2, 9.2.4, 9.1.7, or higher.2. In the limits.conf configuration file, under the [storage_passwords_masking] stanza, add a line view_cleartext_spl_rest = false.3.
