Synopsis
The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.Description
The version of postgresql92 installed on the remote host is prior to 9.2.24-3.70. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS-2025-1959 advisory.While modifying certain SQL array values, missing overflow checks let authenticated database users write arbitrary bytes to a memory area that facilitates arbitrary code execution. Missing overflow checks also let authenticated database users read a wide area of server memory. The CVE-2021-32027 fix covered some attacks of this description, but it missed others. (CVE-2023-5869)
Time-of-check Time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition in pg_dump in PostgreSQL allows an object creator to execute arbitrary SQL functions as the user running pg_dump, which is often a superuser. The attack involves replacing another relation type with a view or foreign table. The attack requires waiting for pg_dump to start, but winning the race condition is trivial if the attacker retains an open transaction.
Versions before PostgreSQL 16.4, 15.8, 14.13, 13.16, and 12.20 are affected. (CVE-2024-7348)
