Palo Alto GlobalProtect App Windows 6.0.x / 6.1.x / 6.2.x < 6.2.6 / 6.3.x < 6.3.3 Local Privilege Escalation (CVE-2025-0117)

high Nessus Plugin ID 232702

Synopsis

A VPN client installed on remote Windows host is affected by a local privilege escalation vulnerability.

Description

The version of Palo Alto GlobalProtect App installed on the remote Windows host is 6.0.x, 6.1.x, 6.2.x prior to 6.2.6, or 6.3.x prior to 6.3.3. It is, therefore, affected by a local privilege escalation vulnerability:

- A reliance on untrusted input for a security decision in the GlobalProtect app on Windows devices potentially enables a locally authenticated non-administrative Windows user to escalate their privileges to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. GlobalProtect App on macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, Chrome OS and GlobalProtect UWP App are not affected. (CVE-2025-0117)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Palo Alto GlobalProtect App version 6.2.6, 6.3.3 or later
